Faster switching – are you up to speed?

Faster Switching is the name given to the Ofgem regulatory project designed to ensure energy consumers can switch their supplier easily, and with confidence. Ofgem state that effective switching will strengthen competition in the energy market which will, in turn, benefit consumers.

It currently takes up to three weeks to switch your gas or electricity supplier and many people find that the process is too complicated, too slow, and too often goes wrong.

The Switching Programme will aim to provide savings on energy bills for consumers, efficiency savings for energy suppliers and increased competition in the energy market.

• New connections – suppliers will be able to arrange new connections quicker which will speed up the process of making new sites energised.

• Energy renewal contracts – if your existing contract is due to end imminently, this will remove or reduce the amount of time you will be paying “out of contract rates.
